As you know, in compliance with paragraph 122 of the Operational Guidelines for the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention, the Secretariat checks the completeness of Preliminary Assessment requests received by the deadline of 15 September and forwards to the relevant Advisory Body(ies) only those requests which are complete. I am pleased to inform you that the above-mentioned Preliminary Assessment request met all of the technical requirements outlined in the Operational Guidelines, consequently a copy of the request has been sent to the Advisory Body(ies) for desk review. The Advisory Body(ies) will be contacting your authorities shortly to initiate a dialogue and agree on the process of exchange. Your authorities are encouraged to appoint a technical focal point to ensure that the dialogue is effective throughout the process. If necessary, the Advisory Body(ies) may request additional information, which should be submitted through the World Heritage Centre. The conclusions of the Preliminary Assessment will be delivered to your authorities by 1 October 2026. In the meantime, I would be happy if your authorities could consider making a voluntary contribution to the sub-account of the World Heritage Fund for funding the evaluation of nominations, in accordance with paragraph 168bis of the Operational Guidelines which also applies to the submission of Preliminary Assessment requests. Contributions are not expected from Least Developed Countries or Low-Income Economies (as defined by the United Nations Economic and Social Council’s Committee for Development Policy), Lower Middle-Income Countries as defined by the World Bank, Small Island Developing States and States Parties in conflict or post-conflict situations. ../.
