The new judicial year of the Constitutional Court is symbolically inaugurated at a solemn hearing, during which the Court reports to the people of Latvia on the achievements of the previous year and outlines the challenges for the year ahead. This significant event enhances the ongoing dialogue between the Constitutional Court and its sovereign – the people of Latvia – thereby reinforcing the legitimacy of the Court’s activities. It is through a democratically elected parliament that the people of Latvia have established the Constitutional Court to safeguard the constitutional system and protect the fundamental rights of every individual.
