Dear all,
Following on from the 26th and 27th ICAO-IMO Joint Search and Rescue
Working Groups, I would like to renew the invitation to you to participate
in the ad hoc email correspondence group regarding Search and Rescue
operations within, and in the vicinity of, offshore windfarms as outlined
in the working group report of JWG SAR 26:
4.6 SAR operations within, and in the vicinity of, offshore windfarms
4.6.1 The JWG recalled that the maritime member from the United Kingdom
had provided information at JWG 24 on SAR operations within, and in the
vicinity of, offshore windfarms (JWG-SAR/24-IP.3).
4.6.2 In this context, the JWG considered the information provided by the
maritime member from the United Kingdom (WP.27/Rev.1), including a report
following aviation trials and exercises in relation to offshore windfarms
in January 2019, and proposing to consider the offer to draft additional
material on Offshore Wind SAR for inclusion in the 2022 version of the
IAMSAR Manual
4.6.3 The JWG noted that care should be taken to include guidance material
in the IAMSAR Manual for all types of special circumstances.
4.6.4 After discussion, and having noted the growing interest to establish
wind farms around the globe, the JWG agreed that this item should be
included in the 2022 edition of IAMSAR Manual and invited an ad hoc email
group under the coordination of the maritime member of the United Kingdom
to prepare the amendment for consideration at next year's JWG;
and the pending items of JWG SAR 27:
5. Development of guidance on offshore installations
Report JWG 22, paragraphs 4.4.1 and 4.4.2
Report JWG 24, paragraph 4.2.1
Report JWG 26, section 4.6

Note: Any SAR matters relating to offshore renewable energy
installations (wind farms/parks, and wave, tide and sea-current devices)
that will or may affect SAR operations; and offshore oil and gas and other
installations at sea that may or will affect SAR operations e.g. oil and
gas platforms, mobile units, and any other structures.
For ease of reference I have attached the original working paper submitted
to the working group to this email (WP27/Rev 1 - SAR operations within,
and in the vicinity of, offshore windfarms).
I appreciate that a year has passed and some of you might have changed
roles or responsibilities, I have taken the liberty to include all of you
as per the List of Participants in case of any further interest in
participation in this correspondence group. If you do not wish to receive
any further correspondence on this subject, please respond to this email
to be removed from the distribution list. Feel free to share this email
with others within your organisations, such as subject matter experts, who
might be interested in participating in the correspondence group.

Dear all,
Following on from the 27th ICAO-IMO Joint Search and Rescue Working Group,
we would like to invite you to participate in the ad-hoc email
correspondence group regarding editorial work related to IAMSAR Manual as
outlined in the working group report of JWG SAR 27:
9.2 Editorial work related to IAMSAR Manual
9.2.1 The JWG recalled the instruction of NCSR 7 to consider the
establishment of an editorial group of experts to assist with editorial
work related to the IAMSAR Manual, as well as the preliminary draft terms
of reference for such a group (NCSR 7/WP.6, annex 3), with a view to
further consideration at NCSR 8 (NCSR 7/23, paragraph 22.7.2).
9.2.2 In this context, the JWG also recalled that at JWG 25 and JWG 26,
the member of the United Kingdom had submitted working papers concerning
the need to enhance the user-friendliness of the IAMSAR Manual and further
work required in this respect. At JWG 26, the United Kingdom (WP.1)
highlighted some of those issues, such as inconsistencies of text,
language, content and sequence, and duplication of content within
individual volumes.
9.2.3 The JWG recalled further that JWG 26 had also noted general support
for the need to undertake work to improve the quality of the Manual, in
particular to address inconsistencies in the text between different
volumes on the same subject. It had also been recognized that there was a
need to align the language.
9.2.4 During the discussion, the JWG noted the option to conduct this work
item itself without establishing a dedicated group, as the existing terms
of reference of the JWG allowed such an undertaking.
9.2.5 In order to progress the matter, the member of the United Kingdom
offered to form an ad hoc email group, to work intersessionally and report
to JWG 28, with the aim of gathering proposals and, in particular:
.1 discuss the need for formal terms of reference;
.2 consider the level of commitment of the members to contribute to this
work;
.3 gather interest from any volunteers to undertake work on specific
areas;
.4 discuss the use of information management tools, such as web-based
publication and content management systems;
.5 assist with aligning text across volumes and the use of language in
future amendments;
.6 assist the IMO Secretariat with the consolidation of amendments into
subsequent editions of the Manual; and
.7 consider any other suggestions or proposals to enhance the
user-friendliness of the Manual.
9.2.6 A view was expressed that as the JWG served for both ICAO and IMO,
the assistance should also be provided for the ICAO Secretariat. However,
the JWG noted that the consolidation of amendments into the Manual was, in
principle, carried out by the IMO Secretariat.
9.2.7 The JWG also recalled the discussion during the consideration of the
proposal by the member of Chile … on editorial improvement of the Manual…
9.2.8 Due to time constraints, the JWG agreed to establish an ad hoc email
group under the coordination of the member of the United Kingdom13 to
progress the consideration of the tasks described in paragraph 9.2.5, and
submit a report with findings and recommendations to JWG 28.
We have taken the liberty to include all of you as per the List of
Participants to establish interest in participation in this correspondence
group. If you do not wish to receive any further correspondence on this
