To whom it may concern,
On behalf of Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (CPTRA), I would like to
express our strong support for the proposal submitted by the University of Tartu under the call
“DIGITAL-2024-BESTUSE-TECH-07 — Accelerating the best use of technologies” within the
Digital Europe Programme.
BECID’s consortium has proven their commitment to advancing the fight against information
disorders and enhancing informational resilience in the Baltics and across Europe. We recognize
the critical importance of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) and its network of
national and regional hubs in achieving these goals.
We believe that the proposed consortium is excellent and comprehensive as it brings together
researchers, analysts, journalists and educators with high levels of expertise, and we commend the
mission to support independent, multidisciplinary efforts to detect, analyze, and counter
disinformation. The CPTRA find this is especially crucial in the fields of security, health, climate
change, migration, economics and European policies, which tend to be more vulnerable to
information disorders.
We are particularly enthusiastic about the added focus of BECID 2 on scaling up into new
disciplines, on real time investigations in cooperation with journalists and fact-checkers, as well
as the agile preparation of materials according to local trends.
The CPTRA fully supports this initiative. We will provide our expertise to ensure the successful
implementation of the project where appropriate on an ad-hoc basis and are eager to participate in
collaborative efforts in the future if the proposal is selected for funding.
