I completely understand.
We have decided not to implement the project in Estonia, but we would very much like to invite you to the final pan‑European roundtable event. During this event, we will present the project’s findings and provide an opportunity to exchange lessons learned with European peers. The event is expected to take place at the end of 2028—still quite far away, but we hope it will be worthwhile. Would you be interested in joining?
If you would be open to participating in the final conference, a letter of support from you would also be very helpful in strengthening our proposal.

I hope you are doing well.
I am writing to inform you about a new EU call for proposals that is very similar to the one we submitted last year, which unfortunately was not approved. We intend to reapply and incorporate the feedback provided by the EU.
The main objective of our renewed project idea remains the improvement of detention standards and conditions, in line with EU Recommendation 2023/681. The main element in achieving this will be the meaningful participation of people with lived experience and of detainees themselves. This project could serve as a follow‑up to the training that Idil and I provided last year. We would be able to support Estonia in developing a structure and roadmap for effectively engaging people with lived experience in policy development and implementation. The project will also include exchanges with other EU countries, including those that have established strong best practices.
Would you be open to participating in this new cooperation?
Our plan is to collaborate with three to four EU Member States. We are currently in discussion with prison authorities and NGOs from Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium.
If helpful, we would be happy to schedule a call next week to present our plans in more detail.
