Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the EUIPO Boards of Appeal, it is our pleasure to invite you to attend the 4th Meeting of Appeal
Bodies, scheduled to take place on 17 September 2026 in a hybrid format.
The purpose of the 4th Meeting between the EUIPO Boards of Appeal and the Appeal Bodies of Member State
Intellectual Property Offices is to benchmark best practices in trade mark and design law and in procedural
matters of appeal proceedings. As a valued stakeholder, your insights and contributions are greatly
appreciated, and your continued participation plays an integral role in the success of our ongoing collaboration.
1. Draft Agenda and request for speakers/panellists
With regard to the agenda for this meeting, we would appreciate your feedback on the attached draft . We have
included a couple of sessions for which we would be pleased to invite you to participate as a speaker or
panellist. They are the following sessions:
Recent national case law on absolute and relative grounds (11:20 – 12:30)
We are looking for one speaker from a Court and one speaker from a national Board of Appeal or an
Appeal Department to present recent national case law concerning absolute and relative grounds for refusal
of trade marks, or design-related case law. Each presentation is expected to last approximately 15 minutes.
Panel discussion (14:30-16:00)
The agenda includes an interactive panel discussion, and we would welcome your views on which of the
following topics would be of greatest interest:
Trade Mark Applications Made in Bad Faith
Intersection between the trade marks and geographical protection, evocation of geographical
indications
Challenges of trade mark genuine use
Family of marks
Descriptiveness of names of colours
Should you wish to propose an alternative topic for the panel, we would be very pleased to receive
your suggestions.
For this session, we are seeking four panellists who will share relevant case law, practical experience, and
perspectives on the selected topic. We would greatly welcome your contribution in enriching the discussion and
ensuring a diverse range of judicial insights on one of the topics proposed above.
