Saatja: [email protected] <[email protected]> Saaja: Info Teema: EJTN Project-Based Exchange 2027 – Artificial Intelligence in Judicial Work Dear Ms Leichter-Tammisto, I am a judge from Lithuania, and I am currently preparing an application for the 2027 EJTN Project-Based Exchange Programme. I would like to propose a short study visit focused on “Artificial Intelligence as a Judicial Assistant: Practical Use, Human Oversight and Safeguards for Judicial Independence.” I am particularly interested in the Estonian judiciary’s approach to the digitalisation of justice and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in judicial work, including its potential application to analysing and summarising case files, legal research, drafting support, and other judicial tasks, as well as the safeguards for judicial independence, human oversight, transparency, data protection and the quality of judicial decision-making. The proposed exchange would last approximately 3–4 working days and would aim to combine discussions with judges and experts involved in the digitalisation and AI-related development of the Estonian judiciary with practical demonstrations, examples of current or planned solutions, and case studies, where possible. As the EJTN Project-Based Exchange application requires prior agreement from a host institution, I would be very grateful to know whether the Supreme Court of Estonia and/or another relevant institution within the Estonian judiciary might be willing to host such a visit in 2027. I would be pleased to provide a short project description and a draft programme, and I would also appreciate any suggestions on the most appropriate institution or experts to involve in such an exchange.
