In the context of the growing global health crisis posed by the spread of the COVID-
19 (coronavirus) outbreak, the Principality of Monaco has laid out rigid, timely
unlimited, public event restrictions and numerous Member States have applied travel
restrictions to their administrative services. In addition, some Member States, though
registered for the forthcoming Assembly, have already informed the IHO Secretariat
that due to their national travel restrictions they will not be able to attend. This makes
the planned conduct of the forthcoming Assembly at the scheduled date of 21 to 24
April 2020 impossible. The Secretary-General in liaison with the Council Chair and
the Monaco Government has therefore decided to postpone the 2nd Session of the
IHO Assembly.
The Directing Committee in close liaison with the Council Chair and the Monaco
Government is exploring the option of postponement of the Assembly to a date within
the second half of the year as well as options to the conduct the forthcoming election
of the successor of the outgoing IHO Director. It is planned to provide more details in
an Assembly Circular Letter in due course.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you well and trust that our decision to
postpone the Assembly will contribute positively to the global fight to combat the
spread and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sincerely yours,
The IHO Secretariat
