PERSONAL NOTE IN SUPPORT OF THE CADIDACY
The european countries and the national audiovisual and online regulators are facing
complicated challenges. Disinformation is increasingly present and directly affects democracies
in our countries. The war on our Europe's border has changed and altered perhaps definitively
the way we report and analyze media communication, and the public is more and more
vulnerable. The authorities we represent have an extremely important role to play and the
cohesion between us is fundamental. Communication between authorities, joint programs,
common attitudes and common positions will help us face these new challenges. I strongly
believe that the experiences of the countries from Eastern Europe are of great help to the whole
Europe, especially in these times. I firmly believe that the perspective of critical analysis coming
from a country like Romania can be extremely useful, because every day, month and year of our
democracy have hardly been won, and in order to protect it, we will do everything in our power.
Countering hate speech and protecting minors are topics of utmost importance to me, as is
media education. These are the main topics that I have proposed in the new mandate that I hold
in the National Audiovisual Council of Romania and that I would also support in the EPRA board,
along with the themes of all the member countries.

To: National regulatory authorities members of EPRA
Dear colleagues,
As you know, during the EPRA meeting that will take place in Oslo, Norway, at
the end of May, elections will be held for the platform's board, respectively for the
position of the president and for the 4 vice-president positions.
The National Audiovisual Council (NAC) of Romania wants to submit at the
meeting in Oslo a candidacy for one of the positions of vice-president.
Our authority's proposal, to which we respectfully ask you to turn your attention,
is Mr. Valentin-Alexandru JUCAN, Member of the Council and Vice-President of NAC.
In this regard, and if your authority does not intend to have its own candidate, we
kindly ask
you to analyse our proposal and, if you consider it appropriate, to support it.
This is the first time that Romania has made such a nomination and does so with
full responsibility and determination. We are convinced that we are presenting you with
an experienced candidate, both in the audiovisual field and in the public administrative
area, namely European affairs.
Moreover, as you can see in the presentation of our candidate and CV (which we
attach to this email), he proposes a representation and themes that outline the defining
challenges of Eastern Europe, even more so in the current regional media context.
We strongly believe that our proposal would represent a plus of expertise on the
EPRA board and an even stronger binder between the European audiovisual regulators,
our candidate being a strong supporter of communication between the institutions.
The National Audiovisual Council of Romania is an authority that is part of a
state system that has reached maturity, with natural challenges, in which democracy and
freedom of expression are values for which we struggle daily.
Therefore, we propose to
you a candidate who fully understands european
semantics, the values of a united Europe, but also the specific challenges of the countries
on the eastern flank of the European Union.
We propose to you, dear colleagues, a candidate who represents not only an
authority, but the set of values that we all stand for: proper information, protection of
minors, protection of human dignity, countering hate speech and media education.
Procedurally, esteemed colleagues, in order to officially register a candidacy, it is
necessary that, in addition to the authority to which the candidate belongs, there are two
more authorities to support the proposal.
If you decide to offer us your support, please send your decision to the EPRA
secretariat, and for this we thank you in advance.
We are waiting to see you again soon, in Oslo and, of course, in Bucharest, in
October, when Romania will host the 58th meeting of EPRA, where we are waiting for
you with open arms and an exceptional program.
