Dear Hydrographer,
1. Revision 4.1.0 of Publication S-57 Appendix B.1, Annex A – Use of the Object Catalogue
for ENC – was published in 2018 (Reference A). The ENC Standards Maintenance Working
Group (ENCWG) has continued to maintain and extend this publication, as directed by its
programme of work and in response to requests from IHO Member States and other
stakeholders. As a result, a draft Revision has been prepared by the ENCWG.
2. In accordance with the procedures outlined in Reference B, the draft new edition has
been evaluated by the Member States and relevant stakeholders through the ENCWG and
proposed changes underwent a development and testing phase. This process resulted in all
proposals being accepted for inclusion in the draft document.
3. The draft new Revision 4.2.0 of Publication S-57 Appendix B.1, Annex A was endorsed
by the HSSC at its 11th meeting in May 2019 (Reference C). Red-line and clean versions of
the draft Revision 4.2.0, as endorsed by the HSSC, are available at: www.iho.int > Home >

4. Member States are requested to take into account the endorsement of the HSSC and
are invited to consider the adoption of the Revision 4.2.0 of Publication S-57 Appendix B.1,
Annex A by providing their reply at their earliest convenience and no later than 06 April 2020
by email (
[email protected]) or by fax (+377 93 10 81 40) when using the Voting Form in Annex A,
but preferably using the IHO Online Form System (see Reference D) available at the following
