Teema: SAVE THE DATE: International Conference “The Role of the Judiciary in Execution of Judgments of the ECHR”: 20 – 21 September 2023 in Riga
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia, we are pleased to inform that on 20 – 21 September 2023 in Riga an international conference “The Role of the Judiciary in Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights” will take place. The Conference is organised within framework of the Latvian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
We are pleased to inform that the organisation of this Conference is well on course, invitations and programme will be sent out latest by mid-February 2023.
We invite participants to arrive on 20 September 2023, the Conference will be organised as one-day Conference on 21 September 2023. The plenary session of the Conference will address the following topics:
- Importance of execution of ECtHR judgments as a safeguard of the European rule of law;
- Core of national constitutional identities as an obstacle to execution of the ECtHR judgments;
- The role of the ECtHR in the supervision of the execution of its judgments;
- Res judicata and reopening of proceedings after ECtHR judgments;
- Supervision of national measures of execution of judgments of ECtHR and separation of powers;
- Future outlook: foreseeable challenges with regard to the execution of judgments of the ECtHR.
There will be two break-out sessions of the Conference by focusing on the following topics:
- Res judicata and reopening of proceedings after ECtHR judgments and the role of the ECtHR in the supervision of the execution of its judgments;
- Supervision of national measures of execution of judgments of ECtHR and separation of powers; national constitutional identity as obstacle to execution.
The closing of the Conference will take place 21 September 2023 late afternoon.
