ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SELECTION OF
NEW ASSISTANT DIRECTORS AT THE IHO SECRETARIAT

Dear Hydrographer,
1. Reference A informed Member States that two Assistant Director Posts, Assistant Director
Coordination & Capacity Building (ADCC) and Assistant Director Digital Technology (ADDT), at the
IHO Secretariat will become vacant by 1 May 2020 and 1 July 2020 respectively and sought
applications for the posts.
2. The IHO Secretariat received seventeen (17) applications for the ADCC post and six (6)
applications for the ADDT post. The Secretariat would like to thank all the candidates and their
nominating organizations for their applications and their interest in serving and supporting the
Organization through the posts of Assistant Directors.
3. The candidates presented the IHO Secretariat with a diverse range of experience and high
qualifications. All applications were considered carefully by the Secretary-General and the Directors.
Taking into account the requirements and job descriptions of the vacant positions, the anticipated
and evolving roles of Assistant Directors in the future and the guidance provided in the IHO Staff
Regulations (Reference B), the Secretary-General has selected Mr Leonel Pereira Manteigas
(Portugal) for the ADCC post and Mr Yong Baek (Republic of Korea) for the ADDT post.
4. Both Mr Manteigas (member of the IBSC) and Mr Baek (Vice Chair of the S-100 Working
Group) are well known to the hydrographic community, having had a long history of very active
involvement in IHO and other international activities at technical, operational and strategic levels.
ADCC select will join the Secretariat Staff in mid May 2020 and ADDT select will join on 01 July
2020.
5. The IHO Secretariat congratulates Mr Leonel Pereira Manteigas and Mr Yong Baek with their
selection as Assistant Director Coordination & Capacity Building and Assistant Director Digital
Technology respectively and wishes them success in their new roles.
