Astangu Vocational Rehabilitation Centre (AVRC) is a unique center in Estonia that has experience in providing rehabilitation services for people with special needs since 1996. Astangu VRC develops the Estonian rehabilitation area and shares its experience with other service providers. The main services we provide to our clients are job and capacity assessment, learning opportunities, job opportunities, rehabilitation and support for work placement. The common goal of these services is to prepare clients for working life through the development of work skills and capabilities. Our target group is working age (16-64 years) people with: • learning difficulties • mental health conditions, including people with autism • intellectual disabilities from mild to moderate • congenital and/or chronic health impairments • hearing loss or deaf people • acquired physical disabilities and traumatic brain injury Astangu's learning opportunities can be divided into 3 - adaptation courses, job training and state vocational training. The purpose of the adaptation courses is to provide people with special needs with support for adaptation, opportunities to study, work and other activities, including support for acquiring and practicing the skills necessary for independent living, studying and working. All adaptation courses are tailor-made for students with intellectual disabilities. The purpose of work-study courses and state vocational education are to offer people with special needs the opportunity to acquire work skills in the chosen field. Both the work training courses and vocational training are adapted for the students needs and are carried out in small groups. In addition to customer service, we are developing the social and educational spheres of Estonia by participating in national and international development projects, talking about several workshops and round tables, organizing trainings and information days for specialists in the field, and offering internships opportunities for future specialists. We are an associate member of the European Rehabilitation Platform and work in tandem with various vocational rehabilitation centers in Europe. The quality of our center's social services is also recognized by EQUASS Assurance. Currently we have 104 students and 92 employees. What are the activities and experience of your organisation in the areas relevant to the European Solidarity Corps? We have experience in hosting 3 volunteers (2017-2019). Currently the 4th volunteer is doing her service with us. We have offered purposeful and versatile volunteering activities to the volunteers and shared our best practises and expirience about hosting volunteers to other VET schools and networks in Estonia. Please describe the links the organisation has with the local community. We organize annually larger and smaller events for and with the community, where we also involve our volunteers. The main events yearly are the "Work Fair" for people with disabilities, the Christmas Market, the HEV Fair (information event/fair for young people with special educational needs) and various network meetings and informational days and smaller events. Currently thre are 92 employees (theraphists, teachers, specialists ect) and 1 ESC volunteer in the organization. International Relations Coordinator plays an important role in all international projects, including the ESC project implementation and coordination. Coordinator´s main tasks are the timing and practical / technical and if nessesary then budgetary requirements of all projects. The coordinator makes sure that the project is coordinated accordingly; creating, mentoring and supporting teams; the content, quality and the purposefulness of activities and voluntary service; dissemination of project activities and results both internally and externally of the organization. The coordinator is well informed and in close daily communication with the staff of the different departments of the center. The coordinator is supported in the implementation of project by the Heads of Departments, Study Managers and other colleagues. The co-operation ensures the purposefulness and quality of the voluntary service overall as well as diversity of the activities for the volunteer. The volunteer works daily hand in hand with the Activity Leader of the center. There is a tutor for the volunteer with whom plans are made and who gives support, encourage and empowers the volunteer in his/her activities. Participating in ESC is part of our Internationalization Strategy, which is part of our Main Strategy. It is important for us to include people with special needs and the ones who have fewer opportunities in society and to ensure equality for them. Our motivation participating in ESC is the development of the organization's employees, development and support of the learning process, involvement of students with special needs and equality. Participation in ESC supports the personal development of our students, intercultural communication, the development of foreign language skills among both the students and staff, the acquisition of new knowledge about other cultures and countries. The creation of international contacts. Through the international activity of ESC we see that the increase of the competitiveness of our students in the labor market raises. ESC participation also plays an important role in creating and shaping a positive image of the Astangu Vocational Rehabilitation Centre. Practical arrangements Please describe the practical arrangements for the volunteers to be hosted (e.g. proper accommodation and local transportation). We have coordinating organization EriNoor who carries out all practical arrangements (accommodation, local transportation, incuranse ect) for volunteers. Support and monitoring Please describe the measures you will put in place to embed a quality learning process from the start of the project and support the participants in defining and meeting their learning objectives, and organising their reflection, identification and documentation of the non-formal and informal learning outcomes acquired, including through EU or national validation tools, in particular Youthpass. If relevant, please answer this question by providing details regarding each of the scopes you are applying for. Here in Astangu VRC we value and carry out our activities following the EQUASS Quality standards. At the start of the project, when the volunteer arrives, he/she has 2 weeks to settle in and get to know the center and its staff. During this time the volunteer meets with teachers, therapists, specialists and gets an overview of the services provided by the center. Each department makes a thorough introduction of themselves and the employees and at the same time a closer and personal contact with the aim of future cooperation with the volunteer is established. After the period of setteling in the activities are planned in collaboration with the volunteer taking into account his/her previous experience and request in applying to the ESC service. We have all the specialist positions filled and the volunteer brings added value to the organization. The tasks are created tailor made for him/her and divided between different departments in order to give him/her the maximum opportunity to learn and experience new and different activities. In order for the volunteer to achieve his/her learning outcomes, volunteer is assigned a personal mentor and a professional supporter (tutor), who monitors both the workload and the purposefulness of the volunteer and makes necessary changes in job responsibilities and work processes when needed. There are regular weekly face-to-face meetings with the tutor. In the meetings they plan activities and analyze the activities already done. Opportunities and challenges are also discussed and solutions to potential problems are found. At these meetings, the volunteer also receives practical help and advice regarding the activities she/he is organizing or working with. Weekly meetings avoid the accumulation of long-term problems. It is also possible to intervene promptly and prevent work overload or not targeted activities. Please specify how the organisation will support the volunteer(s) in integrating in the local hosting community. The volunteer has a mentor and tutor who support him/her in settling in, coping with the new environment both inside and outside the organization. Assistance is offered and available in practical matters as well as professional and also helping to build new relationships with people and in the workplace and community. Weekly meetings with the tutor, as well as the mentor's support and support from the host organization and the cooperation of all parties, provides an opportunity to provide maximum support to the volunteer.
