Dear Sir,
I would like to take the opportunity to invite the Latvian Zemerssardze 27nd Bn team to participate
in Jaak Kärner Shooting competition, which takes part on April 11-12.2026 in Väluste shooting
area near Viljandi, Estonia. The team must be completed by 4 competitors and a representative.
On April 11.2026 at 10.00, it is possible to participate in a preparatory shooting training in Väluste
shooting area. We recommend the training especially in case the Latvian team wishes to use our
weapons in the competition.

J. Kärner memorial shooting competition instructions
Dear colleagues, we are proud to invite you to take part in J. Kärner memorial shooting
competition. The present guide includes information about how the competition is organized
(issues concerning your arrival to Estonia, using the weapons, etc will be discussed on the
phone).
Aim:
To popularize war firearms shooting among the members of the Defence League and to
determine which team is the best.
Time and place:
Viljandimaa, Väluste Shooting Grounds, 11.04.-12.04.2026.
Gathering of teams for the preparatory shooting training at 11.04.26 10:00 at Sakala Defence
League District (Karula tee 7, Peetrimõisa küla, Viljandi vald, 71073). The competition starts
12.04.26 at 10:00 at Väluste Shooting Grounds.
Participants and requirements:
Participants of the competition are 5-member teams from the Defence League Regional Units,
registered foreign teams and up to 4 teams from the Sakala Defence League Regional Unit.
The scores are kept both individually and in teams. Teams consist of 4 competitors and one
representative. The numbers of the tracks are drawn before the competition. In every round,
one member from every team competes with the others. All the shooting positions are shot
consecutively, results are announced after every round.
Rifles: (AK 4, R20, M14) cal 7.62 mm, 5,56 mm
Clothing: defence force combat uniform in accordance with the weather.

Send the registration form (included) confirmed by the team and including the names of the
representative and competitors to

Competition area:
Shooting from (AK 4, R20, M14) cal 7.62 mm or 5,56mm
Trial shots: 5 trial shots from prone position. distance 100m within 10 minutes.
Competition: 10 shots from prone position, 10 shots from standing position and 10 shots from
kneeling position, distance 100m. Time given to perform all these shots is 3 x 15 min.
Firing positions:
1. While shooting from prone position, the shooter lies face down on the shooting
point, facing the target. The rifle is held with the right hand on the pistol grip, the left
hand on the handguard or magazine with the butt of the weapon leaning on the right
shoulder. Forearms (from elbow to wrist), clothing and the rifle (including the magazine)
have to be clearly distinguishable from the shooting ground surface and all other
extraneous items. Using the sling is forbidden. Hands are not allowed to touch each
other.
2. While shooting from standing position, the shooter stands in the shooting point
without the help of any extraneous objects. The rifle is held with the right hand on the
pistol grip, left hand on the handguard or magazine with the butt of the rifle leaning on
the right shoulder. The left arm or elbow may lean on the chest or the hip. lt is forbidden
to use the rifle sling and the sling has to hang freely. While shooting from standing
position, rifle belts should not be used and pockets of the jacket should not contain
items which can be used for providing additional support for the elbow.
3. While shooting from kneeling position, the shooter has to sit on the heel of the
right foot with the knee leaning to the ground. Use of the kneeling roll is not permitted.
The angle under which the right foot is turned can vary. The rifle is held with the right
hand on the pistol grip, left hand on the handguard or magazine with the butt of the rifle
leaning on the right shoulder. The left elbow leans on the knee. Using the sling is
forbidden.
4. The positions for left-handed shooters are the opposite of those of right-handed
shooters described above.
5. The shooters have 15 minutes for shooting from every position (prone, standing,
kneeling). No extra time is granted in case of a malfunction and the shots which have
not been shot are considered to be equivalent of 0. The shooter has to fix the
malfunction without the help from the outside. lf the malfunction cannot be corrected,
the shooter must quit the round and the malfunction will be repaired after shooting has
stopped using help from the outside (the representative of the team, organizers, etc).
Paper target no 4, silhouette target, 52 x 52 cm, green.
Shooting competition rules:
1. Altering of the original factory configuration of the rifle is forbidden.
2. The clothing of the shooter should apply to the uniform requirements of the Defence
League. All kinds of extra equipment or pieces of clothing which may limit or stiffen
the movability of legs, body or arms are forbidden.
3. The shooters have to wear hearing protection (ear plugs, ear muffs).
4. The shooters are allowed to use a mat or some cloth under knees or body while
firing.
5. The shooters may wear glasses. Attaching optical equipment or lenses to the rifle is
forbidden.
6. Using your own ammunition is forbidden (the organizer provides all the registered
teams with the necessary ammunition).
Scoring:
The shooter with the highest individual score of the three exercises added together is the
winner of the individual competition. The team score is the sum of the individual scores of all
the members of the team In case of a tie, the winner will be the person or team who has scored
more tens. lf the number of tens is the same, the referees will look at the number of nines, etc.
Referees:
The head of the jury (the head referee) and the organizer of the firings (a member of the jury,
chief range officer) are from the Sakala Defence League Regional Unit The third member of
the jury, the scoring committee and assistant referees will be chosen among the
representatives of the teams and competitors on site before the competition starts.
Award ceremony:
The three best individual shooters will receive a diploma and a souvenir.
The best team will be awarded with a trophy and a diploma, the teams on the second and
the third place will receive a diploma.
Protests:
All protests should be submitted to the head referee within 30 minutes after the targets of the
last shooters have been checked. The protest committee consists of three members and one
replacement member. The head of the committee is the head referee. All the other members
and the replacement member will be chosen among the representatives of the guest teams on
site before the competition.
