CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF VICE-CHAIR OF THE
HYDROGRAPHIC SERVICES AND STANDARDS COMMITTEE (HSSC)
Reference: IHO CL 69/2017 dated 11 December - Outcome of the ninth Meeting of the
Hydrographic Services and Standards Committee (HSSC)
Dear Hydrographer,
1. As announced in the Reference, Mr Michael Prince (Australia) was elected Vice-Chair of the HSSC
in November 2017 for the period of 2017 to 2020. Unfortunately, Mr Michael Prince recently informed the
HSSC Secretariat that he will be unable to participate in the 11th meeting of the HSSC (HSSC-11) in Cape
Town, South Africa in May 2019. As a consequence, and after two consecutive absences, Mr Michael
Prince has announced his decision to step down from his position for personal reasons.
2. An election for the position of Vice-Chair of the HSSC will therefore be held during HSSC-11, to
take effect at the beginning of the meeting. It should also be noted that in accordance with the HSSC Rules
of Procedures (Art. 2.3), an election for the positions of Chair and Vice-Chair will be held at HSSC-12 in
2020, soon after the 2nd Session of the IHO Assembly.
3. In order to facilitate the process of this forthcoming election, Member States are invited to
nominate suitable candidates for the position of Vice-Chair at their earliest convenience via e-mail to
the HSSC Secretariat at
[email protected]. Nominations will be accepted until 30 April 2019.
4. The IHO Secretariat takes this opportunity to thank Mr Michael Prince, as well as the Australian
Hydrographic Office, for their outstanding contribution and support of IHO activities in general and HSSC
in particular. Mr Michael Prince served as Vice-Chair of the HSSC since 2012 and his expertise, influence,
pragmatic involvement at the technical levels and strategic vision have been much appreciated by the
hydrographic community.
