ADOPTION OF EDITION 4.0.0 OF IHO PUBLICATION S-100
UNIVERSAL HYDROGRAPHIC DATA MODEL

Universal Hydrographic Data Model.
Dear Hydrographer,
1. Reference A proposed the adoption of Edition 4.0.0 of IHO Publication S-100 – Universal
Hydrographic Data Model – as recommended by the IHO S-100 Working Group (S-100WG); and
endorsed by the IHO Hydrographic Services and Standards Committee (HSSC).
2. The Secretariat of the IHO thanks the 51 Member States that replied to Reference A: Algeria,
Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus,
Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Iceland, India,
Indonesia, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands,
Nigeria, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Poland, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Romania, Saudi Arabia,
Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom and
United States of America.
3. All 51 Member States supported the adoption of Edition 4.0.0 of S-100. One Member State
offered an editorial comment in addition to their vote. This comment and the outcome of its review by
the Chair of the S-100WG are provided in Annex A to this Circular Letter.
4. When the Reference was issued, there were 89 Member States of the IHO with three States
suspended. In accordance with the provisions of the Convention on the IHO as amended, the minimum
number of affirmative votes required was 29. As a result, and taking into account the editorial correction
reported in Annex A, the proposed Edition 4.0.0 of S-100 has been adopted.
5. Edition 4.0.0 (English version only) is available on the IHO website at: www.iho.int → Standards
& Publications → S-100.

The S-100WG Chair thanks United States of America for pointing out this omission. The final published
S-100 Edition 4.0.0 will include the missing class details in the figure.
