This competition law seminar for national judges focuses on the fundamental principles and concepts of EU competition law addressed and discussed in lectures by competition experts from OECD member countries. It focuses exclusively on professional topics, especially given that the Hungarian Competition Authority is a state administrative authority, which is independent of the government. We are writing to you in response to an unfortunate email we received yesterday (see below) in order to clear up any misunderstanding that may have arisen. Please note that we very much look forward to continuing our fruitful cooperation and welcoming judges from Estonia and therefore also from the Tallinn Circuit Court. The mission of UNODC is to contribute to achieving security and justice for all by making the world safer from crime, drugs, and terrorism. UNODC has the mandate to support Member States in preventing crime and violence and strengthening their justice systems<https://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/justice-and-prison-reform/cpcj-home.html>. At the heart the Office’s work is the provision of technical support for Member States to implement international human rights law, and the United Nations Standards and Norms in Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. We are currently undertaking research on the impact of e-justice on access to justice in criminal justice systems. This includes mapping existing e-justice initiatives and new mechanisms introduced in the context of COVID-19, and considering their impact on suspects, accused persons, witnesses and victims of crime, including survivors of gender-based violence. To facilitate the collection of information for the study, UNODC has developed an online survey, inviting criminal justice professionals, lawyers, academics, representatives of public authorities and non-governmental organizations to share their knowledge on the operation of e-justice mechanisms/initiatives in the criminal justice domain. You are kindly invited to complete the survey and to share the link to the survey among other interested experts in your organization or network.
