INTERNATIONAL JEWELRY FORUM
AND EXHIBITION OF TAJIKISTAN
“AT THE ORIGINS OF THE OXUS TREASURE”
24-26 March, 2025, Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan
CONCEPT NOTE
The International Jewelry Forum and Exhibition of Tajikistan, to be held
under the auspices of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, will be a
landmark event in the history of independent Tajikistan in the jewelry sector.
Purpose of the Event
The forum aims to promote Tajikistan's rich jewelry-making traditions on
the global stage, preserving them as part of the country's intangible cultural
heritage. This will be achieved by fostering open dialogue, facilitating the
exchange of expertise, and establishing direct connections between participants
through various platforms. Additionally, the event seeks to attract investment and
to strengthen international collaboration across the global jewelry value-added
chain.
The Forum aligns with the Government of Tajikistan’s objectives to
accelerate the development of the country's modern jewelry production sector,
drawing on the centuries-old traditions of national craftsmanship.
Tajikistan has a long and distinguished history of jewelry art evidenced by
notable collections in major museums worldwide, including the British Museum,
the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Russian State Hermitage Museum,
the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and others. The ancient "Oxus Treasures"
are prime examples of the country’s artistic heritage.
Today, Tajikistan’s mining sector, which extracts precious and semi-precious
metals and stones, accounts for 30% of the national mining industry, is a key
sector for the country’s economic development.
In light of the growing demand for artisanal jewelry, the country has
launched several initiatives under the leadership of President Emomali Rahmon,
including the "Years of Rural Development, Tourism, and Folk Crafts" campaign.
As a result, jewelry centers have emerged in Dushanbe, regional hubs and other
cities, bringing together traditional craftsmanship with modern design concepts.
