Requirements for Ship Security Alert System
To shipowners
The Estonian Maritime Administration brings to your attention that the Ship Security Alert
System (SSAS) installed on board shall comply with international requirements of IMO:
1. SSAS shall comply with IMO Resolution MSC.136 (76) with amendments;
2. Identification of the ship shall be in compliance with IMO circular MSC.1/Circ.1190;
3. The message priority and control of SASS testing shall comply with IMO circular
MSC/Circ. 1155.
For the frequency of SSAS testing the Estonian Maritime Administration establishes the
following requirement:
Ships flying the flag of Estonia, on which the SSAS has been installed, shall test the SSAS at
least twice a year:
- once during the annual Radio Survey and;
- the second time five or six months after the Radio Survey.
