IHO File No. AB-2 CIRCULAR LETTER 23/2018 06 March 2018 FIG/IHO/ICA INTERNATIONAL BOARD ON STANDARDS OF COMPETENCE FOR HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEYORS AND NAUTICAL CARTOGRAPHERS (IBSC) - VACANCY FOR AN IHO REPRESENTATIVE Dear Hydrographer, 1 Prof. Dr. Nicolas Seube, who has been supported by the Service Hydrographique et Oceánographique de la Marine (SHOM), as an IHO representative to the IBSC since 2011 has informed that due to his current position he is no longer able to continue as a Member and therefore has decided to resign from the IBSC membership. 2 The IHO Secretariat would like to thank Prof. Seube for his contribution to the work of the IBSC during the time he served as an IHO representative and SHOM for their support since 2011. 3. In accordance with the procedures in force, the IHO Secretariat now requests Member States to consider nominating a suitably qualified and experienced expert to fill the vacancy to represent the IHO on the IBSC. Candidates must be able to show that they have the appropriate experience and expertise that will be relevant and valuable to the work of the Board. 4. Members of the Board are expected to attend every meeting and to conduct business by correspondence between meetings. The selected candidate is expected to attend the 42 nd IBSC Meeting scheduled to take place in March/April 2019 (exact dates and venue to be decided). 5. Member States should also note that the IHO does not subsidize the participation of its representatives. The IHO representatives are expected to be supported by their own organization for all expenses incurred as a Member of the Board. Subject to the availability of funds in the IBSC Fund, which is financed through fees related to the submission of programmes for recognition, some partial support may be provided to Board Members to attend meetings and to carry out on-site visits. 6. The Terms of Reference and Rules of Procedure of the IBSC are available in the IBSC section of the IHO website. 7. A Nomination Form is provided in the Annex. Nominations must include the candidate’s detailed Curriculum Vitae and should reach the IHO Secretariat ([email protected]) by 10 June 2018. 8. The IHO Secretariat will examine the nominations received and, in liaison with the IBSC Chair, Mr Adam Greenland (New Zealand), will confirm the new Member of the IBSC or, if required, consult the Member States to assist in the selection.
