Dear Hydrographer,
1. The Reference proposed the adoption of a New Edition of the IHO Publication C-17 - Spatial Data
Infrastructures "The Marine Dimension" - Guidance for Hydrographic Offices - as recommended by the IHO
Marine Spatial Data Infrastructures Working Group (MSDIWG) and endorsed by the IHO Inter-Regional
Coordinating Committee (IRCC) and IHO Council.
2. The IHO Secretariat thanks the 58 Member States that replied to the Reference: Algeria, Argentina,
Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Ecuador, Estonia,
Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Ireland,
Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Monaco, Morocco, Mozambique, Netherlands, New Zealand,
Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Rep. of Korea, Romania,
Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia, Turkey, United
Kingdom, United States of America, Ukraine and Uruguay.
3. Four Member States offered comments in addition to their votes. These comments and the outcome of
their review by the MSDIWG Chair are provided in the Annex to this Circular Letter.
4. When the Reference was issued there were 87 Member States of the IHO with three States suspended.
In accordance with the provisions of the Convention on the IHO as amended, the minimum number of
affirmative votes required was 28. As a result, and taking into account the editorial corrections reported in the
Annex, the proposed New Edition 2.0.0 has been adopted.
5. Edition 2.0.0 (English version only) is now available on the IHO website at: www.iho.int → Standards
& Publications → Download → C-17.
