Ref: CLT/DCE/23/L38
Sir/ Madam,
On behalf of thé Director-General, l would like to invite your country to make an annual
voluntary contribution to thé International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD). This call for
contributions is in accordance with thé décision of thé Intergovernmental Committee for thé
Protection and Promotion of thé Diversity ofCultural Expressions (Décision 16. IGC 6), taken
at its 16th Session, which took place from 7-10 February 2023. Please find attached modalities
for contributions.
l would first like to extend my gratitude for your country's valuabte support in thé protection
and promotion of cultural diversity worldwide. Your country continues to offer timely and
consistent support to thé IFCDyear on year, making it one of thé Parties we can rely on to
successfully deliver our mandate to foster sustainable development through thé cultural and
créative industries.
l would also like to commend and congratulate ail those involved from your country who
ensured thé successful delivery of thé UNESCOWorld Conférence on Cultural Policies and
Sustainable Development - MONDIACULT2022, held in Mexico City in September 2022.
Thanks to your support, we achieved a historié déclaration for culture, adopted by 150
countries, calling for thé strengthening and adaptation of cultural policies to contemporary
global challenges and positioning culture as a global public good with a view to ensuring its
récognitionas a stand-alone goal in thé post-2030 development agenda.
Today, as we embark on a new year, l count on your country's engagement more than ever
to help us achieve our ambition that thé IFCD acts as a fundamental driver of change,
bolstering support to thé laws, policies and people who drive thé cultural and créative
industries globally, but especially in countries of thé Global South.
At thé récent 16th Session of thé Intergovernmental Committee, 11 new projects were
approved funding from thé IFCD for 2023, an increase of five additional projects compared
with 2021. This reflects thé initial résulte of thé IFCD communication and fundraising strategy
(2021-2023), which has successfulty maintained donations from Parties at over US$1, 000, 000
for thé past two years. It further represents UNESCO's renewed commitment to increase
support to thé cultural and créative industries globally, which are still recovering from thé
impact ofthéCOVID-19pandemic, as well as efforts to prioritize initiatives in Africaand Small
Island Developing States (SIDS), and projects that focus on youth and gender equality.

This year, projects from Argentina, Barbados, Botswana, Chile, Colombia, Cote d'Ivoire,
Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Tunisiawere selected forfunding, with Botswana, Egypt,
Ghana and Pakistan receiving IFCD support for thé first time. This brings thé total support
from thé IFCD towards thé cultural and créative sectorto US$10. 3 million since 2010, through
a total of 140 projects implemented in 69 developing States.
In 2023, we are maximizing our efforts to reach thétarget income of US$1, 800, 000. This would
allow us to offer funding to an increased number of eligible créativeand cultural projects and
make available thé resources to continue showcasing thé work and impact of thé IFCD to thé
world.
l would therefore like to appeal to your country to provide, if possible, more than 1% of its
contribution to UNESCO's regular budget this year.
Looking forward to your country's support to thé IFCD, please accept, Sir/Madam, thé
assurance of my highest considération.
Yours sincerely, !
v^ .
