Teema: RE: Consultation on UWB (ultra-wideband) usage in Estonia
Dear Mr. Rodríguez,
Thank you for your enquiry!
Appendix 4 is meant for non-specific Short Range Devices. Appendix 5 for Radiodetermination Devices.
You are correct, table goes outside allowed spectrum usage for UWB devices, however UWB devices operating
without permit are restricted to 3,1–4,8 GHz and 6–9 GHz.
Please also note that UWB devices are meant for indoor use. In case of temporary outdoor use it is not allowed to
use permanently installed antenna.
If you have more questions please do not hesitate to contact.
With Best Regards

Subject: Consultation on UWB (ultra-wideband) usage in Estonia
Dear Madam, Sir from TJA in Estonia.
My name is Jose-Antonio Jimenez, and I work for the international company Dekra, in its International
Type approval department.
I have previously contacted you in order to make some questions concerning the radio frequency
regulations of your country.
I would like to contact you once more time with a new question, if you could help us, concerning UWB
applications.
According to Appendixes 4 and 5 of the RTT I 13.10.2011 (last amended in 2019), we have:
Appendix 4:
4.33) Ultralairiba (UWB) seade sagedustel 3,1–4,8 GHz ja 6–9 GHz
Appendix 5:
1
5.6) Asukoha jälgimise süsteemid sagedustel 6–9 GHz
And, in both Appendixes, a table is shown to indicate the power restrictions (the table is slightly
different on each appendix):
The table includes the power restrictions that would apply to frequencies from below 1.6 GHz to over
10.6 GHz.
Then, it is not clear to me if UWB usage is limited to:
A)
*3.1-4.8 GHz and 6.0-9.0 GHz, for Appendix 4 type of application
*6.0 -9.0 GHz, for Appendix 5 type of application
B)Or all the spectrum can be used for UWB (below 1.6 GHz, from 1.6 -10.6 GHz, and then over
10.6 GHz) applications.
Could you please help me to understand the regulation?
Many thanks in advance for your help and support, madam, sir.
Best regards.
Jose Antonio Jimenez
