I’m working on an episode of Planet Money, NPR’s economics podcast, about financial incentives and birth rates. The frame of my episode is that I am pregnant and am seeking to respond rationally to the economic incentives countries around the world offer for child-bearing and -rearing, and would love to do a segment spotlighting the changes in Estonia and the outcome. I understand Estonia is one of the few countries that has managed to use parental support policies work to boost its population growth, at least to a degree… I was hoping to speak with you – or whoever the right person in the government would be! – about the benefits Estonia offers, the history behind it, the idea behind offering them, how it works, the ways in which it doesn’t work etc…. Ideally the episode would conclude with me moving to the country with the best offer, tho I should note I do not yet have my husband totally on board for that part ….. Any ideas welcome.
