G. BSHC Circular Letter No. 1 dated 3 January 2017 - SELECTION PROCESS FOR
THE IHO COUNCIL - Invitation to vote
Dear Hydrographer,
1. At its 21th meeting in Klaipeda (Lithuania), 27-29 September 2016, the Baltic Sea Hydro-
graphic Commission agreed to adopt a selection procedure for the designation of the
Council seat(s) allocated to the Commission and amend their statutes accordingly. In do-
ing so, the Commission took example from the similarly amended statutes of the North
Sea Hydrographic Commission (NSHC) – see reference A.
2. According to the agreed timeline at the 21th BSHC meeting (see reference B) and in ac-
ceptance of my designated role as Vice Chair to interface with IHO issues on behalf of
BSHC member states, I would now like to inform you about the result of voting procedure
for the selection of one of the two applying candidates, namely Finland and Poland, for
the occupation of the allocated Council seat (see Reference C to G).
3. I received altogether eight (7) votes out of eight (8) BSHC Member States who are al-
lowed to vote. Seven (6) of the received votes are in favour of Finland. One (1) of the re-
ceived votes is in favour of Poland. The obvious majority selects Finland to occupy the
IHO Council seat allocated to BSHC for the upcoming three years term.
4. The selection procedure is now completed and I forward my congratulations to Finland
herewith. I will forward this letter to the IHO Secretariat for information together with cop-
ies of the individual response letters of the BSHC Member States for the IHO depository.
On behalf of the Chair of the Baltic Sea Hydrographic Commission
Dr Mathias Jonas
