Dear Chief Justice,
It is a privilege of the Supreme Court of Lithuania to host you, Mr. Chief Justice, Mr. Peeter Jerofejev
and Mr. Velmar Brett as well as our colleagues from Latvia at the Annual Meeting ofthe Supreme Courts
of the Baltic States in Kaunas on June 6-7.
We are suggesting to focus at this year's meeting on the questions which are relevant at the moment to
Lithuania, but we believe that they could be of continuous relevance to any other country as well, namely
Judicial Independence and Judicial Effectiveness. In order to encourage discussions, it would be most
helpful if you could prepare an approximately l5 minutes presentation highlighting problems of most
importance to your country.
Please find enclosed a preliminary programme of the event. Please note that the Supreme Court of
Lithuania will provide accommodation for your delegation of 3-4 persons and will cover the costs
incurred during the two-day event. Depending on whether you will be travelling by air, the Supreme
Court will also organize the transfer from Vilnius or Kaunas airport to Kaunas and back to the airport.
