The event is tailor-made for EU officials who want to gain better insight in the economics and market developments that characterise the shipping industry. The format is interactive and will allow you to engage in discussions with a renowned market analyst and three European shipowners, who operate in different business contexts: * Stephen Gordon, Managing Director at Clarksons Research Services (London) Clarksons is the world’s leading provider of integrated shipping services. Clarksons brokers bring together companies with cargo to ship (charterers) and those with vessels capable of shipping it (owners). Clarksons also provides financial services to help clients identify and manage risk, fund transactions and offers support services in ports for ships, cargo interests and crew. Clarksons’ research team is respected worldwide as the most authoritative provider of intelligence on global shipping and the offshore sector. With more than 70 full-time researchers, Clarksons collects, validates, analyses and manages data to inform the key business decisions that shape the shipping industry. * Claes Berglund, Director Public Affairs and Sustainability at Stena (Göteborg) The Stena group is a privately owned shipping group and has activities within ferries, tankers, ports, offshore drilling, ship management and real estate to name the biggest areas. The ferry company Stena Line is one of the world’s leading ferry companies operating more than 35 ferries mainly in Northern Europe. Stena Bulk is a global tanker operator and provides both companies in the Stena Sphere and external customers with marketing, chartering and commercial operations services. Northern Marine Management is a Ship Management company that handles the crewing and operating of over 100 vessels for internal and external customers. Stena group has a turnover of 3 billion Euro and 12.000 employees and operates more than 150 vessels. * John C. Lyras, President at Paralos Maritime Corporation and Board Member at the Union of Greek Shipowners (Piraeus) The Union of Greek Shipowners was established in 1916. Greek shipowners control the world's largest <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merchant_fleet> merchant fleet in terms of <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonnage> tonnage. Although a number of Greek owners have diversified into other shipping sectors, Greek shipowners have generally retained a focus on the wet and dry bulk sectors. Today, the Greek fleet is largely made up of bulkcarriers (47% by GT) and tankers (35%) with this combined share hovering around 85% for most of the past twenty years. * Thomas Rehder, Managing Partner at Carsten Rehder (Hamburg) As shipowners, Carsten Rehder have traditionally operated tramp ships for break bulk trades and in the past decades containerships as well as multipurpose and heavy lift ships. Carsten Rehder ships are owned in private partnerships, offering ship investment opportunities by public offer and to individuals in small groups of partners by private placement. The company’s shipmanagement department provides technical know-how for all aspects of safe and reliable ship operations in accordance with today’s standards of efficiency and safety. As chartering brokers, Carsten Rehder covers the container markets, the bulk markets upto handymax size as well as the breakbulk, project and heavy-lift trades. Magda Kopczynska, Director Maritime Transport at DG Mobility and Transport of the European Commission, will facilitate the discussions. Participants to the Masterclass will receive a full documentation pack, including all presentation materials. The Masterclass will take place at the ECSA offices – Rue Ducale 67 in Brussels. After the event, we will have the pleasure of offering you a network lunch. You are very welcome to distribute this invitation among your colleagues.
