Over 2000 delegates participated representing 180 countries. The COPs took important decisions on substantive areas, including the adoption of the new Programmes of Work (POW) for each of the three Conventions for the biennium 2024/25 pursuant to decisions BC-16/28, RC-11/15, and SC-11/27. As it was the case in previous biennia, the implementation of the POW requires the Secretariat to receive significant voluntary contributions. Accordingly, the conferences of the Parties, in the same decisions, urged Parties, and invited others in a position to do so, to contribute, as early as feasible, to the conventions’ special trust funds for voluntary contributions with a view to ensuring the implementation of these important projects. In line with this mandate, following the COPs, the Secretariat has reviewed the planning of activities in the POW for the remainder of the 2022/23 biennium and the upcoming biennium 2024/25 biennium. I am writing this letter to draw your attention to those activities that need to start immediately to feed into the various intersessional processes in preparation of the COPs in 2025 and the various subsidiary body meetings. Activities that would feed into the Basel Convention Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) meeting that is scheduled to be held from 25 to 28 June 2024 are of particular importance and need to receive funding urgently. The Annex to this letter contains an overview of POW activities requiring funding urgently, including the respective budgets. In accordance with the above, I am kindly asking for your valuable contributions to support the implementation of these activities. We would need to receive your pledge letter as early as feasible. Please be reminded that even the smallest contribution will help us to support these critical intersessional processes. Should your Government be interested in contributing to the activities set out in the Annex to this letter, please contact at your earliest convenience the resource mobilization Focal Point of the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions, Mr. Frank Moser, at [email protected] (cc:[email protected], [email protected]).
