Annex A to IHO CL 43/2016 IHB File N° S1/5009 CIRCULAR LETTER 43/2016 09 September 2016 ICC 2017 - 28th INTERNATIONAL CARTOGRAPHIC CONFERENCE (Washington, DC, USA, 2-7 July 2017) Dear Hydrographer, 1. The 28th Conference of the International Cartographic Association (ICA), ICC 2017, will take place in Washington, DC, USA from 2 to 7 July 2017. ICC 2017 will be organized by the Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CAGIS). The Conference will include paper and poster presentations, meetings of the ICA commissions, an international cartographic exhibition and commercial exhibits. 2. It is a tradition that the IHO participates in the biennial ICA Conferences both through attendance by representatives from hydrographic offices and through exhibiting nautical charts. This has contributed to maintaining high visibility of the IHO among the world’s cartographers. Cross- participation in the conferences organized by each organization is one of the activities identified in the Memorandum of Understanding between the IHO and ICA signed at the XVIIIth International Hydrographic Conference in April 2012. 3. Many themes addressed by the Conference, shown in Annex A, are relevant to the work of the IHO and its activities, and several Member States will have already prepared displays for the Member States’ Exhibition at the first session of the IHO Assembly in Monaco in April. Therefore, the Directing Committee invites Member States to consider participating in the technical sessions and cartographic exhibition at ICC 2017, in liaison with their national cartographic committee or equivalent, as appropriate. The relevant deadlines are the following: 26 October 2016: deadline for the submission of abstract and papers; 1 December 2016 to 1 March 2017: on-line registration for the cartographic exhibition More details may be found on the ICC 2017 website (www.icc2017.org). 4. The US Hydrographic Office (Office of Coast Survey / National Ocean Service) has informed the Directing Committee of its intention to organize in conjunction with the Conference a one-day event focusing on nautical cartography. This event is expected to take place on 7 July 2017. The Directing Committee will forward further details as and when available. On behalf of the Directing Committee Yours sincerely, Gilles BESSERO Director Annex A to IHO CL 43/2016 THEMES OF ICC 2017 Note: the themes that are considered of interest for the IHO are highlighted T01 Visual analytics, geovisualization, and dynamic cartography.
