Teema: Aggregates for the RB project
Järeltegevuse lipp: Järeltegevus

Hello,
I am at present writing an overview for the Finnish Government (Ministry for Environment) about the aggregate
supply and potentials of Finnish aggregates that can be utilized for various construction activities in particular in the
Baltic Sea region. Therefore, I would be thankful, if you could provide me information about the RB project. In
particular, I would appreciate information related to the questions below and I also suggest a co-operation or :
1) How much (in tons) aggregates are needed to build the RB railway line?
2) What are the main types of aggregates that you have to import (Railway ballast….concrete aggregates,
asphalt aggregates, load bearing aggregates etc.)?
3) What are the quality criteria’s (e.g. the grain size distribution, mechanical properties, weathering
susceptibility etc.) for needed aggregates?
4) When is the aggregate tendering scheduled and is the tendering done separately in each Baltic country?
And I also offer you cooperation/work effort to support the RB project cost-effective access to high-quality
aggregates for various end-use applications from various international and domestic aggregate providers.
I am:
- an experienced aggregate geologist (my PhD covered mapping, testing and quality assessment of aggregates)
- an associate professor (docent) at the University of Helsinki of applied geology
and I have:
- worked as director for international affairs at Geological Survey of Finland
- a proven record of international projects and a vast contact network both in public and private sectors
- knowledge of Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian aggregates and their providers
If you need, for example technical expertise or assistance to evaluate the quality of provided aggregates for the RB
project, I would be very motivated to work for the RB project. However, at present time I am grateful, if you could
provide me the information about the RB project.
Best Regards
Mika Räisänen
