SUPREME COURT REPUBLIC OF ESTONIA President Aigars Strupišs Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia 36 BrTvTbas bulvaris LV-15llRiga LATVIA Tartu, 4 March2026 Dear President Strupišs, Over the years, the meetings between the Baltic Supreme Courts have developed into a valued tradition, offering an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss common challenges and further strengthen our trilateral cooperation. In the current international context, where many developments are shaping our societies and institutions, maintaining close contacts and regular dialogue with our closest partners is particularly important. It is therefore my great pleasure to invite the delegation of the Supreme Court of Latvia to the Trilateral Meeting of the Baltic Supreme Courts, to be held in Tallinn on20-22May 2026. For this year's meeting, I suggest addressing several themes of broader relevance to the judiciary under the heading "Latest Developments and Challenges in the Judiciary", similar to the format of our meeting last time in Estonia. This discussion could cover, among other matters, current issues related to the office ofjudges and the functioning of the court system as a whole. Each judicial system faces its own developments and challenges, and it would therefore be most valuable to hear about the present priorities and experiences of the Latvian judiciary and to reflect on both our common features and our differences. In addition to these general topics, part of the meeting could be dedicated to two more specific areas of law - civil law and criminal law. Given our shared historical background and comparable legal traditions, our Supreme Courts often encounter similar legal questions and developments in case law. The meeting would thus provide an opportunity to exchange views and discuss relevant case law from the Civil and Criminal Chambers of our courts. To support a focused and engaging discussion. we would kindly invite representatives of each court to prepare a short presentation of approximately 10-15 minutes covering the three above- mentioned themes.
